StartingPack: Svelte 5 & TypeScript Architecture Boilerplate
StartingPack is an open-source, production-grade starter boilerplate designed by Faycal Rafa to showcase clean software architecture principles in the modern frontend ecosystem. Built to explore and leverage Svelte 5’s revolutionary Runes reactivity system, StartingPack provides engineering teams with an opinionated, lightning-fast foundation for building scalable single-page and full-stack web applications.
1. Technical Motivation: The Shift to Svelte 5 Runes
Svelte 5 introduced universal reactivity through Runes ($state, $derived, $effect), replacing the compiler-driven magic of Svelte 3 and 4 with explicit, signal-powered primitives that work consistently inside and outside .svelte component boundaries:
- Signal-Powered Fine-Grained Reactivity: Eliminates the overhead of virtual DOM diffing while avoiding the subtle reactivity edge cases common in legacy store subscriptions.
- Universal State Encapsulation: State logic can be extracted cleanly into pure
.svelte.tsutility classes without losing reactivity, enabling robust separation of concerns between business logic and UI presentation. - TypeScript First: Designed from the ground up for strict TypeScript type checking, providing flawless type inference for reactive signals and component property contracts.
2. Key Architecture Features
2.1 Developer Tooling & Ergonomics
- Vite 6 Bundler: Configured with ultra-lean build steps, path aliases (
@/components,@/stores,@/utils), and sub-50ms Hot Module Replacement (HMR). - Tailwind CSS Design System: Pre-configured utility setup with customized design tokens, dark mode classes, and zero unnecessary runtime CSS overhead.
- Strict Quality Gates: Integrated ESLint, Prettier, and TypeScript
strictNullCheckspre-commit hooks to enforce spotless code quality standards across contributor teams.
2.2 Reusable Component Hierarchy
- Base primitives for accessible dialog modals, toasts, popovers, and theme toggling.
- Responsive bento grid and flexbox layout wrappers optimized for zero Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).
- High-contrast accessible color tokens supporting both light and dark system color schemes.
